Comfortable warmth for different heating needs
BRUNNER is best known for its stoves and fireplaces. Our appliances not only meet all current standards but in most cases fall well below the applicable emission limits. The high-quality workmanship of selected materials also ensures long-lasting durability. The individual appearance is then created by your local stove builder, who tailors the design to your wishes and crafts a complete work of art.
The fundamental decision
Is it most important to you that the appliance provides plenty of heat for your living space?
If warmth matters more to you than atmosphere, a tiled stove system is the clear choice. These stove systems — such as radiant and storage stoves, water-bearing systems, or warm air tiled stoves — ensure that your basic heating needs are fully met. Of course, the view of the fire should remain unobstructed, which is why all our tiled stove systems are also available with glass-ceramic doors. The design and materials are as diverse as only skilled craftsmanship can offer. Heating performance and the cozy feeling of warmth are determined by the type of construction. Naturally, the wood-burning stove, as a true heating appliance, also belongs to this category.
Is it important to you that the appliance heats your living space while allowing you to enjoy the atmosphere of the flames?
We offer a wide variety of heating fireplace formats for this purpose. However, it’s important to keep in mind that a heating fireplace can also produce a significant amount of heat. It is a closed combustion system that generates noticeable warmth with an efficiency of around 80 percent. The heat output should therefore be matched to the heating requirements of the room in which it is installed to ensure proper regulation.
Is it most important to you to simply enjoy the flickering fire?
For those who want to experience the crackling, authentic fire without focusing on heat output, the BRUNNER URFEUER® fireplace is the perfect choice. It offers the lowest heat output with the greatest atmospheric effect — an open fireplace like in the old days, combined with modern technology: a spark protection screen and an integrated external air connection. This allows the URFEUER® to be used safely even in well-insulated, low-energy homes. Its efficiency level is around 25 to 30 percent heat output.
Is it important to you that the appliance has a completely custom fireplace or stove casing?
When it comes to the visual design of a fireplace’s outer casing, there are basically two options: a fully individual design tailored to your personal wishes and needs, or a system-based casing that allows for limited customization. The latter consists of prefabricated thermal concrete elements, which can be given a personal touch through extensions or various painting and plastering techniques. System appliances, thanks to their prefabricated casing, can be implemented very quickly and therefore cost-effectively.

Fireplaces in comparison: which heating principle suits me best?
Fireplaces bring warmth, atmosphere, and a unique sense of comfort to your home. However, not every type of fireplace works the same way. Here, we show you the differences between a fireplace, tiled stove, radiant stove, and open fireplace.
| Product | Fireplace | Tiled stove | Masonry heater | Open fire |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Type of heat | Radiant & convection heat | Radiant heat & heat storage | Slow, even radiant heat | Open fire, minimal heat output |
| Type of heat | Steel | Iron cast | Chamotte | Steel |
| Storage mass | Medium | High | Very high | Low |
| Heat-up time | Fast | Medium | Slow | Instant warmth, but cools down quickly |
| Heat duration | Medium | Long | Very long | Only while the fire is burning |
| Efficieny | High | Very high | Highest efficieny | Very low |
| Ambience & fire view | Very high (large glass panels) | High to medium (depending on design) | High to medium (depending on design) | Maximum fire experience |
| Special feature | Quick heat & fire enjoyment | Efficient heat over several hours | Should be heated regularly due to long heat-up time | Decorative, minimal heat output |
| Ideal for | Interim heating, atmospheric fire | Regular heating, pleasant radiant warmth | Continuous, independent wood heating | Occasional fire & atmosphere |
Tiled stoves
Once heated, a tiled stove releases warmth for many hours. This is due to the high heat storage capacity of ceramic and cast-iron storage masses. It is ideal for homes where long-lasting, even warmth is desired. Depending on whether heat should be emitted primarily during combustion or both during and after, different stove systems can be implemented.
Fireplaces
They not only bring quick warmth into the room but are also true eye-catchers. Large viewing windows showcase an impressive play of flames — perfect for cozy evenings by the fire. Depending on whether a fireplace is to be used as a radiant stove, for high warm air output, as a storage fireplace, or to support the central heating system, it can be combined with additional heating surfaces and storage masses.
Water-bearing appliances
Both fireplaces and tiled stoves can be implemented as water-bearing versions. This is ideal when the fireplace is meant to provide not only warmth and atmosphere but also support the central heating system. Depending on requirements, the focus can be placed more on boiler output or radiant heat.
Different heating effects
The choice of the heat storage area is important for the heating output of a stove or fireplace. It can either be integrated into the fireplace insert or placed within the stove casing next to the combustion chamber. Metallic heat storage areas, such as a flue gas heat box or cast-iron rings mounted on top, provide quick and high heat output.
Flue gas-guided ceramic storage materials, such as modular top-mounted storage units or adjacent ceramic flue channels, create the typical tiled stove effect. With a boiler attachment, the fireplace can also heat water and support the heating system.
The glass panel variants
Clear, coated or double-layer glass-ceramic
Fire viewing panels are not just ordinary glass. The glass-ceramic used is specially designed for the high and fluctuating combustion chamber temperatures as well as the mechanical stresses in stoves and fireplaces. Double glazing or versions with a heat-reflective coating are used when furniture or combustible components are located near the combustion chamber opening. These variants are also advisable when the installation room is small or has only a low heat demand.
Fire viewing panel single glazing
Radiant heat from the combustion chamber is emitted through a single glass-ceramic panel, as used in the standard version.
Reduced radiation: double glazing
The double glazing reduces the surface temperature of the outer pane by 100–200 °C. This lowers the radiant heat emitted through the glass. This version is available for selected tiled stove and solid-fuel stove models.
Reduced radiation: coated glass
Up to one third of the radiant heat from the combustion chamber is reflected back into the firebox in the long-wave infrared range. The thin coating does not visually affect the flame appearance. The coated glass version is available for selected tiled stove and fireplace models. With the coated glass, the minimum distance to combustible components in the radiation zone may be 80 cm. For the standard glass, a distance of 120 cm or more must be maintained.
4 reasons why the glass stays clean longer
The airtight construction and combustion technology, the wood moisture and quantity, proper operation by hand or via burn control, as well as the correct chimney draught are the key factors here. To keep the chimney draught under control, BRUNNER offers two clever solutions:
In combination with the burn control system, the motorised exhaust damper flap prevents excessive negative pressure as a control function. It ensures that the flue gases do not pass too quickly through the storage mass during combustion, allowing it to heat up optimally. After the burn phase, the closed throttle position prevents heat from escaping through the chimney. This results in a heat gain of about 10–15%. Over the years, this saves a considerable amount of energy and firewood.
The flap installed in the air connection box regulates the airflow between the fireplace insert and the flue system. Functioning like a draught stabiliser, it ensures a constant chimney draught and a calm, steady flame pattern.
The door and Frame variants
Door variants
At BRUNNER fireplaces, two door variants are available:
- Lifting door: here, the glass panel is pushed upwards and elegantly disappears into the body.
- Side opening door: those who prefer a classic style choose the hinged door, which opens to the side.
For both variants, the sophisticated technology, high-quality workmanship and durable function ensure smooth opening and closing as well as easy cleaning.
For BRUNNER tiled stoves, the design remains classic – all models are equipped with a side opening door.
Frame variants
For both door variants, there are two frame options for connection to the fireplace or stove cladding:
- Door frame: mounted visibly on the surface, providing a defined frame around the fire. For tiled stoves, there is a choice between steel and cast iron.
- Mounting frame: integrated discreetly into the cladding, making the door appear almost frameless.
For tiled stoves, steel frames are available in stainless steel or black-painted steel, while fireplace frames are always black-painted.
The BRUNNER tiled stove inserts from the WF/WFR and HKD series offer, depending on the model, various front panels that create a smooth transition to the cladding. These heating inserts also provide the ideal solution for a quick and uncomplicated replacement during tiled stove modernisation.
Ready for the future -
the new brunner technology
Over the years, we have continuously adapted our product range and design options to meet our customers’ wishes and needs as well as regulatory requirements – our understanding of lived technical evolution.
green is the new standard at brunner: with the right fuel and proper operation, emission levels can always be verified. We do not need a “laboratory setup” – anyone can heat “green” at home. Tiled stoves are inherently green due to their combustion technology. In fireplaces, this level is achieved through the patented recessed combustion system.
With an integrated catalytic converter and burn control, the green+ quality level can be achieved. The choice is entirely up to each individual and can also be retrofitted at a later time.
