Urban design, handcrafted precision, and cutting-edge technology – the BKO brings together everything that defines great fire
The BRUNNER free-standing stove BKO stands for honest materials and genuine warmth. Its casing made of pure raw steel gives it a distinctive character – robust, durable, and authentic. Inside, the latest BRUNNER combustion technology with patented recessed firing ensures clean and consistent heat. Whether in a flat or corner version, the BKO is always a statement – combining architectural character with warmth and style.

The features of our free-standing stoves
The BKO is designed as a preassembled system unit for quick and precise installation by professional craftsmen. All components – from the heating insert and cladding frame to the raw steel panels – are factory-matched with exact precision. This ensures a clean, seamless result with minimal on-site effort.
With its compact, space-saving design — standing only 170 cm tall with a footprint of about 60 × 60 cm — and a flexible flue outlet that can be positioned at the top, left, or right, the BKO integrates harmoniously into almost any living space.
Inside, a BRUNNER fireplace insert from the BKH green series operates with innovative recessed firing technology. This ensures exceptionally clean and efficient combustion. The insert can also be optionally equipped with a catalytic converter – guaranteeing consistently low emissions and long-term future readiness.
The BKO can be equipped with hood options featuring cast-iron heat exchanger rings (WTR) or modular storage rings (MAS), allowing the heat output effect to be individually adjusted. Additionally, a heat-reflective coated glass panel enhances radiant heat distribution back into the room.
Control can be operated either manually or automatically via the BRUNNER EAS or EOS systems – ensuring maximum user convenience.
In addition, an integrated throttle valve regulates the draft in the flue pipe, ensuring an even and controlled combustion process. The control lever is elegantly integrated into the steel top cover.
The distinctive raw steel cladding gives the BKO its unmistakable character, making each unit truly one of a kind. The minimalist frame draws the eye to the fire, while the firebox lining — available in light chamotte or dark cast iron — offers individual design flexibility.
Pure raw steel – genuine, durable & distinctive
The raw steel cladding gives each BKO its own unique character. A special rolling process creates the characteristic black-blue surface with its individual texture. Over time, this develops into a natural patina, making every stove a true one-of-a-kind – as authentic as the material itself.

No ordinary free-standing stove
The BRUNNER BKO is not a typical Swedish stove: inside, a high-quality BRUNNER BKH green fireplace insert with recessed firing serves as the heart of the system, ensuring exceptionally clean, efficient, and sustainable combustion. Both the insert and the overall construction embody BRUNNER’s renowned quality. Premium materials, precise craftsmanship, and a solid raw steel cladding make the BKO a stove that sets new standards in every respect – inside and out.

FAQ to Free-standing stoves
- What is the difference between the BKO and other fireplace stoves?
The BRUNNER BKO stands out clearly from conventional fireplace stoves — both in combustion performance and in design. Inside the BKO is a high-quality BRUNNER BKH fireplace insert with a recessed combustion chamber, the key to particularly efficient and clean burning.
Both the insert and the overall construction reflect BRUNNER’s renowned quality. The solid raw steel casing gives the BKO its distinctive character, setting it apart visually and technically from ordinary stoves. Inside and out, the BKO represents the highest standards of material and craftsmanship.
- How complex is the installation of the BKO?
The fireplace stove is delivered as a preassembled system unit. This means all components — from the heating insert to the steel casing — are precisely matched at the factory. This allows the installer to set it up quickly and accurately, with no major adjustments needed.
- How do I care for the raw steel surface?
Raw steel is a living material — its surface changes over time. With a bit of care oil (for example, Ballistol), it stays protected and develops a unique patina that gives every stove its individual character. Small scratches or color variations are part of the material’s natural look.
- How can the BKO be individually customized?
There are several technical options — such as a firebox made of fireclay or cast iron, a heat-reflective glass panel, and storage solutions with cast or modular heat storage rings. An exhaust gas catalyst can also be retrofitted.
