Water-bearing fireplaces and stoves can support your heating system. Especially in the transitional seasons, they’re a real advantage. One or two firings a day are enough to supply both the hot water and the heating system. The main heating doesn’t even have to turn on. And when less heating energy is needed from conventional sources like oil, gas or electricity, that saves money, protects the environment – and makes you more independent.
From wood to radiator
The principle behind water-bearing fireplaces and stoves is simple: only part of their heat stays in the room where they’re installed. The rest is transferred to a buffer tank and fed into the central heating system. BRUNNER was one of the first manufacturers to offer its proven wood-burning systems for custom-built stoves also as water-bearing versions. For more than 25 years, BRUNNER has built up expertise in optimizing hydraulics and controls.

This is how the heat from the wood reaches the radiator:
The heat is released in the combustion chamber – that’s where the wood burns.
The heating insert may have a water-jacketed combustion chamber, but in any case it includes a mounted heat exchanger.
The water around the combustion chamber and inside the heat exchanger heats up and is collected in a buffer tank.
From there, it supplies heat as needed to radiators, underfloor or wall heating systems.
Expert advice
Combining the fireplace with other heat sources – such as a heat pump – saves money, is sustainable and increases independence. Even simply feeding the heat into a buffer tank provides great support for the heating system.

For homes with a heat pump, combining it with a water-bearing wood-burning system provides excellent relief. When it gets very cold outside and the heat pump becomes less efficient due to higher electricity use, the water-bearing fireplace takes over. For smart heat management between heat producers and consumers – and for convenient operation of such hybrid heating systems – BRUNNER offers complete system solutions, such as the BRUNNER heating unit BHZ.
And if there’s a power outage, no need to worry – the BRUNNER emergency power supply keeps all essential heating pumps and the control system running.

Conclusion
Fireplaces and tiled stoves meet the basic need for warmth in your living space. If you also want to heat additional rooms in the house, water-bearing fireplaces and stoves offer real added value. In the living area, though, you won’t notice the difference at first glance – the extra technology is hidden behind the fireplace or tiled stove cladding.
