BRUNNER Bioethanol fireplaces
The BRUNNER BKE burns bioethanol cleanly and in a controlled manner. This produces no ash, soot deposits, or fine particulate matter. That means: no ash disposal, virtually no window cleaning, no need to store wood, and no need to add more logs. Furthermore, it produces neither smoke nor unpleasant odors. This makes it ideal for anyone who loves a real fire but wants to enjoy the greatest possible convenience.

FAQ Bioethanol fireplaces
- Do the logs in a bioethanol fireplace need to be replaced regularly?
No. The logs are imitation wood and serve a purely decorative purpose. They are made from a material specifically designed to withstand high temperatures.
- How do I switch a bioethanol fireplace on and off?
The BRUNNER BKE offers two convenient ways to control the fire and adjust its intensity to suit your preferences: directly via the control display integrated into the fireplace or using the remote control.
- Can I use any type of bioethanol?
For reliable operation over the long term, bioethanol with a concentration of 96.6% must be used. Our warranty for the appliance is conditional on using the correct fuel. Although higher-strength ethanol is often cheaper, it is not recommended for the BKE and using it will void the warranty. We recommend using Fanola Ethanol.
- How long does a bioethanol fireplace burn?
The integrated tank holds 10 litres, allowing you to enjoy a cosy fire for up to 16.5 hours.
- Can a bioethanol fireplace be used for heating?
BRUNNER bioethanol fireplaces are designed as decorative features that create atmosphere, rather than as heating appliances. Although they produce noticeable warmth during operation (heat output: 8 kW), they stop giving off heat when the appliance is switched off. These fireplaces have no heat storage or secondary heating surfaces.
- Does a bioethanol fireplace produce exhaust gases or odours?
During operation, a bioethanol fireplace produces only heat, carbon dioxide (CO₂) and water vapour. If a BRUNNER LAS system is installed, these can all be reliably extracted. This prevents excessive heat from building up in the room and keeps the fireplace odour-free during operation.
- How safe are bioethanol fireplaces?
The BRUNNER BKE offers a particularly high standard of safety: our bioethanol fireplaces burn bioethanol vapour rather than the liquid fuel itself. A pump feeds the ethanol from a tank into the combustion area, so it does not come into contact with other technical components. Several sensors continuously monitor operation and automatically extinguish the fire if any irregularities occur.
- Can a bioethanol fireplace be installed anywhere?
If no exhaust air system is planned, you have flexibility in where you position the fireplace. This makes it suitable for apartments, penthouses, upper floors and new buildings without a conventional chimney or gas connection.
- Does a bioethanol fireplace need a chimney?
No, neither a chimney nor a gas connection is required. Depending on the size of the room, however, an LAS system is recommended to remove the heat generated. Ask your stove installer for advice tailored to your needs.
