Flames dance, wood crackles, and comforting warmth fills the room when wood burns. What we experience as something so pleasant is actually a chemical process. The oxygen from the air combines with the carbon and hydrogen from the wood (wood being bound carbon in solid form), releasing energy in the form of heat and light.
