Wood pellets - the "liquid wood"

Wood pellets, pellet module by BrunnerThere are a lot of good reasons for choosing wood as fuel.

The price of wood either as logs or pellets, is determined by its local market availability and is entirely independent of oil and gas prices, which will continue to rise inextricably due to limited resources and eco-taxes.

Wood pellets are made of compressed, dry natural waste wood and are easy to recognize by their standardized, cylindrical shape.

They are produced from saw mill waste, including sawdust and wood shavings, squeezed under very high pressure without any chemical binding agents and have a calorific value of approx.5 kWh/kg. The energy content of 1 kg pellets is about the same as 1/2 l heating oil.

What do you need to know before buying wood pellets?

General rule: The better the fuel quality, the higher calorific value of the heat released! When buying pellets, you should always check whether the pellets comply with the standards (DINplus in Germany, ÖNORM in Austria...). Then you can be sure you are getting a fuel with no harmful componentss, including chemical binding agents, glue, paint or plastic from processed wood waste. This will ensure the optimal and clean operation of your heating system. Warranty claims are often rejected when damage is caused by using low quality pellets.
